POLYDIV-21

POLYDIV WORKSHOP RENNES UNIVERSITY 11-12 OCTOBER 2021

The International Research Network (IRN) Polyploidy and Biodiversity and the French « Plant Genome Dynamics » network (DYNAGEV) are co-organizing a workshop in Rennes, France (Campus de Beaulieu) on 11 & 12 October 2021, with support from University of Rennes 1, CNRS and INRAE.

Polyploidy, resulting from Whole Genome Duplication (WGD), is a central mechanism of biological diversification, contributing recurrently to the formation of new species and providing new opportunities of adaptation, expansion and domestication of species. Much progress has been accomplished in the last decades regarding the structure and function of polyploid genomes, but there is still a great need to elucidate the ecological and adaptive consequences of polyploid genome dynamics for both ecological and agronomical contexts in a rapidly changing environment.

The conference will discuss latest results regarding the short- and long-term evolutionary consequences of WGD, most particularly related to the following questions: (I) How do newly formed polyploid species manage to increase their fertility? (II) What are the evolutionary dynamics of duplicated genes and genomes over various evolutionary timeframes? (III) What are the processes driving diploidization in polyploids? (IV) What is the effect of polyploidy on the evolution of reproductive systems? (V) What are the ecological consequences of polyploidy in terms of tolerance to environmental constraints, adaptation to novel ecological niches and their impact on the evolution of new functions? Contributions including (but not restricted to) computational approaches to study polyploidy, evidence for ancient polyploidy, modelling, experimental evolution of polyploids are encouraged.
